EXERCISES
Shooting Practice and Editing Exercise
This project consists of 4 editing exercises, 1 shooting exercise & 1 shooting & editing exercise.
Week 2:
Project 2 - Editing Practice 1 (Lalin)
For this exercise we are to edit some footages and compile them all into one video. We were able to refer to a video called 'Lalin' so as to take reference to how the video should be and we were also provided with a storyboard.
I used Adobe Premiere Pro to do this exercise. During this exercise, we were also taught by Mr. Martin on how to use some effects in Adobe Premiere Pro throughout a tutorial video. After watching the tutorial, here is what I came up with.
Draft 1

After doing my first draft, Mr. Martin gave us the feedback of removing the background sound since it was not an appropriate one. Additionally, we were requested to add some text message notification sound in the video and also trim it at around 30 seconds.
Using the ripple effect was pretty easy to do as the tutorial video provided to us was also very direct and easy to understand. I added some ambient sounds as well as a better and clearer 'crowd talking' sound effect.

Shooting Pratice Exercise (Framing)
After learning about the different angles that can be used to shot a video, we were tasked to shoot some videos of ourselves using the different type of framing. After the shooting session, we were also asked to edit the footages and add captions using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Types of framing:
-Low angle Wide shot
-Frontal MCU
-Frontal MS
-Extreme Close-up shot
-Side-angle MS
-3/4 angling MCU shot
-Close-up shot
-Eye-Level Medium-Wide shot

Week 3:
30 sec MV shoot
For this exercise, we are to work in a group consisting of 3 people and choose a specific song on which we want to dance to. Then, we are required to shoot 7 specific shots referring to the slides that were given to us. Additionally, we need to edit the video and hence create our own short music video of 30 seconds.

Time stamp: 1:06 to 1:36
I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the video. I tried to add a caption and also tried to play with some transition effects so as to make the video look a little bit less boring. The first few seconds of the video consist of me and my individual shots and the last few seconds consists of me and my groupmates dancing to the same part of the song.

After doing the first draft of the music video, we were also tasked to try and color grade the latter. We were also provided with colour presets that we could find on the internet for free.

Additionally, I tried to adjust the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows and so on in the video. I also used the creative filters ' SL CLEAN KODAK A HDR' and ' SL BIG LDR' so that the video in a whole could have a better visual aesthetic.

Week 6:
Shooting & Editing Exercise
Our next exercise consists of working as a production team with some of our classmates. We are to shoot a K-drama trailer based on the series ' Happiness' and then create our own storyboard. It is an apocalyptic thriller that takes place in a time in which infectious diseases have become the new norm.
Our first step was to assign to each members their roles. Mine was to be in the Director of Photography team with two other classmates and we also managed to use the camera in order to shoot some scenes.
Below are some pictures of the 'Behind the Scenes' during our production shooting.

After shooting the video, we were tasked to do the editing part for the trailer using Adobe Premiere Pro.
The first step was to cut the videos and remove the unnecessary parts. After that. I assembled everything into one. Then, I started to add the audios that is the ambient sounds and the background music to add more tension and give more emotions. Furthermore, I started to add some texts just like in the original trailer so that it would look less awkward since we did not shoot much audios where the actors were speaking. To continue, I also added 'dip to black' effect to the videos and 'film dissolve' effect to the texts. Finally, I also color graded the video and tried to colour correct them as well.

FEEDBACKS
Week 3:
General feedback : Need to add our own ambient sounds and sound effects for the Lalin video.
REFLECTIONS
Week 2:
Doing this editing exercise for the Lalin video felt pretty simple as the steps to do it were easy and direct. The fact that we also had a tutorial video for it made it look more simple to understand as we just had to follow the steps. I would say that now I'm getting more used in using Adobe Premiere Pro as compared to the first week where we first learnt about it. The process went on pretty well and learning new ways to edit videos was pretty fun. The more you use the software, the easier it gets to do the job.
Week 3:
Shooting the video individually was really tiring as it took me around 2 hours + to get the different footages for my video. I would not say that I enjoyed this exercise the most as it required quite a lot of energy, dedication and patience. However, I would say that editing it was pretty okay as it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Honestly, since I had never really edited videos like this before, I did realise that I lacked of imagination and experience when it came to editing the video. I do think that I still have a long way to go in my learning journey about video editing and creating some cool transitions that I could be proud of.
Week 6:
Being in a film production like scenario was actually pretty fun. It was an insightful experience to learn how normally film production sets take place as I never did this before. Being behind the camera and being able to shoot some scenes which would be used later on for our task was pretty stressful as it felt like a big responsibility. Nevertheless, the shooting part of this task was exciting, fun and also quite tiring! Editing the video was pretty easy since I am pretty much used to cut and put together the videos.
