INSTRUCTIONS
Week 4:
Final Project
Our final project is based on the theme of 'Burnout'. We are to create an animated infographic video of min 1.5 min and max 3 min. We must include some form of data/statistics and use the questioning technique and provide answers.
It is recommended to use questions ‘What, why, where, when, who and how’ into the building of our narrative before transferring the information onto our storyboard.
Things to keep in mind when doing the infographic
1 – Start by comparing things side by side to make it easier on the eye. Whether it’s two or three elements, you should everything symmetrical.
2 – Obsess over alignment. Make sure your elements are correctly centered and aligned, and on the same level.
3 – Create a clear division using two different colors. In order to keep it clean and minimalistic, you can choose darker or lighter shades of color.
4 – Always stay consistent using the same kind of elements.
5 – Finally, use the same structure for side by side comparisons for titles, icons, text, etc. When comparing apple with apples, it’s important to keep the consistency between both sides to demonstrate that it’s a comparison.
Personal Burnout Experience
Our individual task is to talk about our personal experience on burnout. So here I am doing this:
The only time that I experienced a burnout was during my A-levels. I was very stressed out due to my art projects as the work kept on accumulating. Everyday I felt so stressed out about not being able to finish in time and the fact that I could never take a break made everything worst. Feeling burnout made me feel sick as I got headaches and felt nauseous for quite a while. Nothing much was able to help me and I felt helpless also. I felt very low emotionally and mentally. My physical health wasn't at it's peak. The only thing that got me through my burnout phase was Covid-19 which (sorry to say) came right just in time. It helped me out a lot as now I got time to chill, relax and pick myself up. I would say that after experiencing a burnout, I am able to recognise what would trigger it and also maybe find solutions to it.
After writing about my personal experience, I also made some research on burning out since this was given to us as a group task. My teammates and I created a Google Doc to pitch in all the info that we could get and group them together so that we could get concrete information to start the project.

Storyboard
After finishing our kinetic typography, we divided the storyboarding task as we began our final project. To show our lecturer, two of us would roughly animate the sketches that five of us would be drawing. Here is how the script was split equally.

Moodboard
We also discussed about the style and theme that we wanted to go for. The main idea was to have a character based on the shape of a flame as we thought it would represent the meaning of burning out.
Storyboard Templates
After dividing the tasks, I was assigned to do a part of the storyboard. Additionally, we did a draft animation to show the flow of our project as well.

Week 5:
Storyboard (After feedbacks)
The final tasks were divided once more as the next step. The task of outlining and sketching was divided between two people. Two more people were tasked with the illustration part, while the remaining three were tasked with the animation part.

Sketches
Here are the sketches that were done by Anna.

After that, it was my turn to start outlining the sketches. I used Adobe Illustrator since it would be easier for the others to use when they have to illustrate but also animate as well. I mostly used the Pen tool and once in a while I also used the brush tool. One smart decision that Anna took to save everyone time was to use the same flame shape most of the time. In total we had 52 sketches but most of them consisted of repeated shapes which made the outlining process easier and quicker.

After that, my other teammates managed to start the colouring process.

Week 6:
Next step was to start the animation of our video. My part was already done but I also tried to pitch in some ideas when we were getting feedbacks from our lecturer based on the video that we showed during the class.
Week 7:
After today's feedbacks, I had to quickly draw some more elements that were missing in our animation.

FEEDBACKS
Week 4:
General feedback:
The idea is good. Try to animate more and add more visual elements rather than words.
Week 5:
General feedback:
We are good to go and we can start animating the video already.
Week 6:
General feedback:
There is quite a lot of scenes probably more than necessary. Try to shorten some scenes and make the transition more direct and simple.
Week 7:
General feedback:
This time we had a more detailed feedback. Generally what was asked from us was to simplify the animation again. Try to use the same character most of the time rather than completely changing the scene repeatedly. Additionally, add some more elements to provide a contrast for the viewers to understand more easily.
REFLECTIONS
Week 4-8:
The hardest aspect of this project wasn't coming up with ideas. As we were capable of settling on something quickly and easily, it did feel simple to make the decisions. If I'm being really honest, doing all the outlines by myself was pretty tough. Although it was difficult and exhausting, I completed it as quickly as I could so that others wouldn't have to wait too long. I'd say the section where we ran into the most issues was the animation. I think it was taxing for others as well because we had to re-animate the scenes quite a number of times after receiving the feedback. This project was pretty fun to do. Working as a group was nice since everyone cooperated and did their job in time. Additionally, I'm happy of the result and do not have much regret.
