INSTRUCTIONS

Week 10:
Final Project: Physical Action Sequence Animation
We are to use our character from our  previous project 1 to animate a 5 second physical action sequence. We also need to create a storyboard that visualises the key moments, actions and emotion of the scene. We need to incorporate variety of camera shots, angles and visual continuity to enhance the visual storytelling. The animation should show the quality of appeal, fluidity, flexibility and clarity and the understanding of cinematography and editing. Lastly, we should edit the final animation with sound effects and background music.

However, our lecturer mentioned that those from Film and Cinematography could use the same story and no need to invent something new. So, I decided to choose the same to make my task easier as well.

Week 13:
Thumbnail
I started by doing a rough thumbnail for my story. What I wanted to illustrate and show as an animation was Jinx running from the monster chasing her. The story was taken from the one in my Film and Cinematography class which is also considered as the Act 2 of my animation.

Final Storyboard
Then, I proceeded to do the final storyboard using Photoshop.

Here's a short recap of my story:
Jinx, the inventor, is exploring various universes and planets. While traveling through a tunnel between dimensions, a fearsome monster suddenly begins to chase her. To make things even more exciting, Jinx encounters an obstacle in the middle of her path, adding an extra layer of interest to her adventurous journey.

Week 14:
Rough Animation
Naturally, I jumped back into Photoshop to sketch my frames after deciding what I wanted to achieve with my animation. First, I completed a preliminary draft to see if everything appeared to be in order and to obtain a general idea of what would occur.

Week 15:
Tie Down Animation
After showing it to my lecturer, I proceeded to do the tie down version of it.

Week 16:
After finishing the tie down, I used Photoshop to colour each of my frames. I imported them into Adobe Animate and worked my magic there after. In total, I had roughly around 54 frames for my animation which last around 9 seconds.

For the environment coloring and rendering of my animation, I drew inspiration from the picture below. I aimed to create a fantastical atmosphere resembling a galaxy, aligning with the central theme of Jinx's adventurous journey through the universe. I chose a colour scheme that was inspired by the galaxy.

Initially, I envisioned the obstacle to be colored like a meteorite, but it clashed with the animation's overall style, standing out in a jarring manner. So, I decided to take a different approach. I aimed for a more abstract and fantastical design, which surprisingly resembled a fish aquarium. This unexpected twist added an intriguing and imaginative element to the scene, blending harmoniously with the rest of the animation's theme.

I used Adobe After Effects to add sound and background music after putting each frame together. Additionally, I utilised it to add the title of my animation, which would appear in the final scene.

Draft Animation
At first, I animated the running sequence on 2's but then found it quite boring and not dynamic enough.

Final Project: Physical Action Sequence Animation
In my final animation, I made the action part more dynamic by animating it on 1's instead of 2's. This change resulted in a faster and more rushing effect, making the scene feel more natural and exciting. The previous version appeared slow and lacked the desired level of intensity. I also added some sound effects as well.

Here's what I used for the audios:

FEEDBACKS
Week 14:
Try to animate the start for around 1 second which is around 24 frames or more. The second shot can be from another point of view where she looks up. Try to make the background a bit more random. Also add a mid tone for the box. Overall, the action is fine.

REFLECTIONS
Week 10 - 16:
This project was the most challenging one compared to our previous works. It required extensive research and a lot of patience to draw each frame with intricate details. Coloring the frames turned out to be the most enjoyable part, although it sometimes got a bit tedious. I had to redo some parts to find the right balance for the background colors, ensuring they didn't look too animated or rushed. It involved trial and error, but in the end, I successfully brought my animation to life, and that's what matters to me. Seeing my hard work pay off was incredibly satisfying, and I'm proud of the final result. Adding sound effects added another layer of life to the animation. Through this process, I learned valuable lessons that I'll carry with me for future animation projects.
