Instructions

Week 12:
Project 3: Animatic Storyboard Production
The objective of this project is to produce a 1 minute animatics storyboard based on our approved short animation. The animatic storyboard production must be based on the proposed story ideas developed for Project 1. As submissions we need thumbnail sketches, a proper storyboard and an animatic with effects, sound and audio.

Thumbnail
I began by sketching some of the concepts I wanted to explore based on my Project 1 narrative, and I later presented them to my lecturer. I assembled them into a storyboard using Figma. Photoshop was also one of the software which I primarily utilised for drawing and shading.

Week 15:
Storyboard
I changed some boards and added more illustrations to my story after receiving some feedback. I also finalised my storyboard as per the requirements of this assignment.

Week 16:
Animatic
I started animating my frames on Adobe After Effects since I felt more comfortable using this.

Audio that I used:
Act 1 background music - https://youtu.be/PgQHxk4G_VA
Act 2 background music - https://youtu.be/upgAIOsipLA

For this animatic, I also recorded my own voice and added a lot of sound effects. For several places that called for the usage of the latter, I also reverberated my voice. Each scene's length had to be carefully considered so that it wouldn't appear hurried or too boring. Additionally, I made an effort to use the animation presets effectively so that the scenes would flow smoothly and wouldn't appear weird whenever a scene or shot changed. I tried to play with the opacity, scale, position and anchor points of my objects.

Feedbacks
Week 12:
- Spare some time in the animation to show the machine. Try to add more details to say that it's a travelling machine.
- Add arrows for the camera actions such as zoom in and out
- Add a storyboard where it shows that she's travelling through the tunnel
- For the part where the monster appears, put an over the shoulder shot instead
- Add one more scene where she looks for an alternative way to escape and she looks confused
- Add a slide where the monster threatens her.

Reflections
Week 12 - 17:
Completing this assignment felt like a never-ending task. I struggled with drawing from certain angles and shots, which limited my ability to illustrate some scenes. Lack of inspiration led to procrastination, making it even more challenging and tiring to do all the drawing by myself. However, the editing phase turned out to be even more time-consuming than I anticipated. Finding suitable sound effects, transitions, and background music proved to be quite difficult. Ensuring everything flowed smoothly and didn't look awkward added to the challenge. Recording my own voice was uncomfortable, and listening to it while working was horrible :,) Despite all the difficulties, I managed to push through and create my first animatic. It was a valuable learning experience, and I'll definitely apply what I've learned in future projects.
